Author Biography

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra dedicated himself to writing late in his life, at 58, when he published the first portion of Don Quixote. Prior to gaining literary recognition he had a checkered career that took him from Italy to the Battle of Lepanto (where he lost the use of his left hand), and later he'd fight in Corfu, Amabrino, and Tunisia. He was jailed several times in Algiers, Seville, and Valladolid.
